Our Dog is very sick…..?
Hi, I am hoping you can help. I know it is impossible to diagnose through an email but we are at the end of our ropes. Our dog, a ten year old Weimaraner, is going downhill, and fast. He has many signs and symptoms that started shortly after catching a woodchuck. It started with decreased appetite, then difficulty breathing (fluid was found on the lungs), increased thirst (renal failure is now setting in), mucous stool, increased albumin in his urine, I think that about rounds it off. Also, he has been on rymidal for quite some time for hip dysplasia. We are not looking for a cure or a treatment, we know that is impossible. What we are hoping for, however is some closure. Any thought or advice would be of assistance. Thank you for your time.
Thank you to all who respnded. We have taken him to a vet…many many times. We even took him to a canine internal specialist, none of them had anything solid to go on, just a big circle of answers. You have ALL been very helpful and kind, Thank you! One vet suggested steroid shots to ease his discomfort as a short term till he passes. I prefer him home with us until he is gone! He has been a great dog and family member.
Oh gosh, I’m so very sorry. It sounds like you’ve done everything possible for your dog I don’t think that any of these things have to do with him catching the woodchuck, and it’s pure coin incidence that all of these things have happened now. I know that’s not what you want to hear, and I’m sorry I can’t tell you anything more positive.
I really hate to say this, but it sounds like it might be time to let him go soon, especially in light of the fact that he appears to be going downhill so quickly. This, however, is a decision that only you can make, and not one that I tell you lightly. It breaks my heart to think that it may come to this though as I know what you are going though and it brings tears to my eyes and he isn’t even my dog.
Love him and spoil him rotten for whatever time he has left because he deserves nothing less.
Again, I’m very sorry, and wish I could tell you something that would give you more hope, but I think this would have happened no matter what.
I’ll keep your dog and your family in my prayers.

Take him to a vet. They’ll diagnose and possibly heal him.
We can’t give you "closure."
It’s get him help NOW or live the rest of your life wondering if you could have.
I’d pick option A. Even if it meant money being tight for a while.

Sorry your boy is so sick. Poor thing.
Do you know that he can’t be treated? What has your veterinarian told you?

Oh jeez, how sad, I am so sorry about that. All I can think of is just love him/ her like there is no tomorrow and if he gets worse, I would put him/ her down. Because I or you don’t know what pain (if any) he/ she is going through…. It was hard for me to say that because I LOVE dogs…… anyway, good luck…. and I send you my condolences.

Poor Baby! He’s got a lot of nasty things going on, with his health! Unfortunately, if he has no more quality of life, and he is in pain, the only humane thing you can do, is to put him down. I know how tough and heartbreaking of a decision that is! You just have to consider, how he is suffering, and what would be the best, and kindest thing you can do for him! I’m really sorry!http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/lastbatt.htm

Take him to the vet and see how bad the situation is. I hate to say this but it may be a kindness to end it. I would do so for any of my dogs if I thought they were suffering.
The vet may be able to increase his quality of life and prolong it.
Do it now….don’t wait…it will opnly make things harder..
I know…we had to let one of our dogs go and it still hurts after 5 years!!!

You need to take it to the vet ASAP.
It might be parvo, or rabies, or a ton of different sicknesses.
You shouldn’t take anyone’s word on it here for it, you should take the poor thing to the vet and get it help.
If you listen to ANYTHING on here, please let it be that you take it to a vet.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I just lost my bunny this evening that I have had for five years.
He could have go poisoned or bitten by it, which could have caused his illness. Ten years old is quite old for a dog, too.
Then again it could just be a coincidence

Your dog most likely has congestive heart failure from the Rymidal. My Shepard died from this about 5 years ago.
Stop the Rymidal and you may have a chance. Your vet knows what the problem is they just do not want to tell you the medication you gave him for his pain is killing him.
He is not in pain, it’s just he’s tired from his heart having to work so hard. Good luck and remember it was either the medication or putting him down prior to this because of the pain. You did the best you could with the information the vet gives you.

Please take your dog to the vet as soon as possible. Sounds like he is really, really ill.
Are his gums whitish? Is his breath rancid? has he stopped eating completely? (maybe even vomited what he did eat?) It could be a sign of (I hate saying this) death fast approaching. This happened to my dog last year after he was diagnosed with cancer of the pituitary gland. We were going to start treatment, but these same symptoms started, along with the labored breathing and it was just time. Personally, I do not believe in having one’s dog killed if it is dying (exceptions are if he has been run over by a car or badly injured) — as dying is a natural process it would just be precipitating the inevitable. What we did do for our dog was talk to him, soothe him, and just be with him until he was ready to go on his own. He passed away within 3 days and we did not have the burden (like so many do) of having to make the decision for him. Just because a dog is dying it doesn’t mean it is in pain — however, if it seems to be that he is in pain, there are medicines out there that can make him comfortable until he is ready to go on his own (ask your vet). Of course, each person is different, and this is just my opinion, so really, take your dog to the vet, but if you feel that indeed he is dying, my thought is there is nothing better than being home around those who love you and bring you comfort.
The best to you – your dog is in my prayers.

Whatever you do…DO NOT PUT HIM DOWN!! ONLY put him down if the vats are absolutely, positively SURE there is no cure and they KNOW WHAT IT IS! If there is something he can be saved with….USE IT! Then you can spend at the most 5 more years with him. It sounds to me like it could be Parvo or it could be another illness but if he is going downhill fast and it IS Parvo then it WOULD be best to put him down but NOT UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS! If it is Parvo he will not be able to survive as for it sounds like if it is Parvo he is too far gone. PLEASE TAKE HIM TO THE VET! (24hr vet!)
~Good Luck & God Bless! You both are in my prayers!~
